About Kelly
Kelly Simons is a photographer from Clarksville, Maryland. She has been working in film and digital photography since 2014 and is a recent graduate of Ohio University in the Photography and Integrated Media department of the School of Art + Design. Her work varies greatly in subject matter but does not waiver in enthusiasm. Her work reflects her enjoyment in exploring and researching different film types and techniques. Her love for photography comes from film and the lengthy process it takes to have a final print. When she works in digital media, digital manipulation gives new light and meaning to her projects.
Artist Statement:
Through the exploration of my work over the last couple of years I have found what I enjoy taking pictures of the most, people. You can share emotions, manners, communities, and give a peak at someone’s life through a simple picture. The photographer needs to be involved in the process and attentive to what they want to capture. I want to develop my skills, so I make sure to not only focus on portraits. I find landscapes relaxing to photograph but still complex because by changing your framing of the picture you can focus on something completely different. If you take a moment to appreciate the world around you, you will realize everything is stunningly beautiful. I am currently working on a film project that captures relationships and the small, passionate moments.
